Latest NewsCCD Registration InformationRegistration for the 2010 – 2011 CCD year will soon begin. The registration information and materials are available to you on the Holy Cross website. We will be using email as a means of communicating periodically with those families registered in our Religious Education program. So, please provide us with your email address on your CCD registration form. Also, we will be utilizing an automated call system for emergency closings and cancellations and other pertinent program information. Therefore, it is extremely important for you to provide us with your correct home and daytime phone numbers. Beginning July 16, 2010, you will be able to go to the Holy Cross home page and, by clicking on the appropriate icons and following the posted instructions, view the brochure that details an overview of our program, the beginning calendars for the Kindergarten – Level 6 section and the Youth Ministry section (Junior High and Confirmation), the CCD registration forms and student emergency form. You can then print off the registration and emergency forms, fill them out and return them to the Religious Education Office for processing. We will not be mailing this information to your home. The printable forms will be available in a PDF format where you will need to have Acrobat Reader installed on your computer in order to download this information. Click HERE to download Acrobat Reader. If you are unable to download this information onto your computer, or if you do not have internet capabilities, paper copies of these forms will be available all summer in the gathering space of Church, along with a drop box to receive completed registrations. Or, you may stop by the Religious Education Office to pick up these forms. Please be aware that we will be using the same format for registering in our Confirmation program as we did last year. All 2009 – 2010 graduated 8th grade CCD students have been mailed a packet concerning preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation during the 2010 – 2011 school year. The application form in that packet is the official registration form for the Confirmation program. Therefore, if you have children in both Confirmation prep and the lower level CCD program, you will need to return two different forms for registration. Please contact the Religious Education Office if you have any questions concerning this information. Confirmation registration will close on August 17, 2010. No registrations for the 2010 – 2011 Confirmation preparation year will be accepted after that date unless a family moves into Holy Cross Parish prior to the scheduled Confirmation weekend retreat. Registration for Levels K through Junior High will temporarily close on August 31, 2010 so that we may formulate our rosters. No Level K through Junior High CCD registrations for the Fall/Winter session will be accepted after October 1, 2010 unless a child comes from an existing program. Please see the brochure for additional details. For the upcoming CCD year we have made a change to the regular session schedule. Due to various reasons, the 6:30 pm CCD program will no longer be available. To try to accommodate many different family schedules, CCD classes will now take place on Wednesday evenings from 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm, and on Thursday evenings from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm. We hope this will not cause any undo hardship for our CCD families. The 6:30 pm time slot had the smallest population and has decreased as the summer session has increased in population. Also, the needs of the Holy Cross Elementary School maintenance cleaning schedule make the 6:30 pm less feasible. Please note that summer CCD is listed on the current registration form. We have had such a wonderful response to this program that we will be offering it again from June 20 through June 30, 2011. It takes place Monday through Friday from 9 am to 12 noon. IF THIS IS SOMETHING THAT FITS INTO YOUR FAMILY SCHEDULE, YOU MUST REGISTER FOR IT NOW. There will be a limited number of spaces available for each grade level and they will be filled on a first come, first served basis. We will not accept any summer CCD registrations after December 31, 2010. Our summer CCD program has allowed many families to have the scheduling flexibility that escapes them during the hectic fall through spring school session. We are happy that we are able to offer it. But it has caused some confusion for many of our families when assigning their children to their appropriate grade level. In the past we have allowed children to attend a CCD level either before they attended that grade in the public school or after they completed that specific grade. This has led some of our classes to have difficulty due to varying maturity and educational levels, especially in the lower grades. Therefore, beginning with the 2010 through 2011 CCD school year, of which summer 2011 CCD classes are a part, all students must complete the particular grade level in the public school in order to be assigned to that grade level in summer CCD. In other words, in order for a child to attend Level 1 summer CCD 2011, that child must have completed first grade in the public school during the 2010 – 2011 academic year. And, unless there are extenuating circumstances, no child will be permitted to attend two CCD levels during one CCD school year,; i.e., Level 4 in the fall 2010 through spring 2011 school year, and then Level 5 in the summer 2011 CCD program. Please note: those who are already in process from Level 1 in this past session (June 2010) are grandfathered in and will continue without interruption. If the above information is not clear to you and you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the Religious Education Office when you are ready to register your child(ren). You can reach us at 674-5786, extension 121, 122 or 123, or stop by during our summer office hours (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday; 8 am – 2 pm).
